A History of Mechanic To Go^™

In 1975, Joel Schneider started his own auto repair business in Cordova, IL, a small town on the Mississippi River north of Rock Island. Having tools, know-how, and a pickup truck, Joel decided that he would just go to the car in need of repair, saving people from the hassles and expenses of towing their vehicle. He named his new business Mechanic To Go^™.

Advertising with flyers, Joel took half the business from the local repair shop in just a few short months and has made a living as an on-site auto mechanic ever since.

In 1979, Joel moved south to Corpus Christi, TX bringing his Mechanic To Go^™ business to a bigger market. With just word of mouth from happy customers, Joel had more than enough business to keep him busy. His best client became Southwestern Bell, servicing fleet trucks that broke down on the road.

In 1982, Joel moved to an even bigger market in Charlotte, NC to rejoin family. Starting over in a new and growing area, he easily duplicated his previous successes advertising only through the Yellow Pages and on the Mechanic To Go^™ truck itself. As mobile phones became commonplace, consumers called from their cars as he passed them on the road.

When the Internet began to reach consumers in 1998, the Mechanic To Go^™ established a presence on the web at mechanictogo.com. The increased visibility kept Joel so busy repairing cars day in and day out, he didn't have time to think about expansion.

Then in 2004, Joel's nephew joined him to help expand the business. Mechanic To Go, Inc. is now poised to expand the business across the United States.
